History Tea at the Drake Hotel with Richard

History Tea at the Drake Hotel, Chicago with Richard

RESCHEDULED DATE:   Friday, March 22, 12 p.m.

This is a fabulous event, and anyone that would like to attend is invited.  Just RSVP via the Facebook link at the bottom of this post.  I will be making the reservation on Tuesday, 3/26.

Information on the tea:

Enjoy a new spin on The Drake Hotel’s legendary afternoon tea! The Drake offers its very own “History Tea” in the spectacular Palm Court. Enjoy an assortment of tea sandwiches, pastries and scones with traditional accompaniments plus a tour through 91 years of Drake history courtesy of Tea Sommelier, Shaun Rajah. Hear the story of the Lady in Red or the tale of when Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe carved their initials in the Cape Cod bar.

The History Tea is available Monday – Friday, February 1 – March 31 with seatings from 12 pm – 4 pm. Three guided tours will take place during this time. Cost is $30 per person.

Here is the twist....  everyone is encouraged to wear their vintage fashions!

I would love to make this a yearly event to help spread the word about wearing Vintage and show support for the community in Chicago.

PLUS, how cool would it be (and how much attention would it garner) to be at the Drake for a history tea all gussied up in vintage?!

Downton Abbey & Mad Men- Changing the Way Men Dress

Downton Abbey & Mad Men- Changing the way men dress.....

I am so happy that these two television shows have kicked men in the ass and have them finally starting to pay attention to their wardrobes and appearance.

For the more modern tailored gent, there is Mad Men.  Heavy on the suits, narrow lapels and ties, the square fold pocket, and mostly solid colors of brown, navy, grey, or black.   Here is an extended article I found that breaks down the main players in more detail :

                                           Mad Men

For Downton Abbey, the look is very English tailored.  My personal favorite of all types of dress for men (which you can probably tell by some of my recent posts and my Etsy store)  Lots of tweed, hats, and amazing formal wear steal the show.  No one does is like the Brits!  And my favorite labels are all in the know: Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, Hackett London, Paul Stuart, and Gant.

Another great blog post that looks at the shows fashion focus in depth:

Of course, with these styles now on the hot list, they are becoming quite expensive... but my men's vintage line has a great blend of both worlds at incredible prices!

A Day on Michigan Avenue, plus the new Gift Gallery @ Neiman Marcus

A Day on Michigan Avenue....

For those that don't know (or haven't checked my Facebook page for the info)  I have 2 part time positions working as a retail merchandiser.  One for a designer eyewear company, the other for a London based neckwear line....

I love that I still get to be in the current fashion world, but can also gear my vintage collection towards the here and now....  Modern styling meets vintage fashion... a great combo, don't you think?!

Today I did some merchandising for a few of my accounts... then met up with my friend Mark, who had an invite to the Swarvoski boutique on Michigan Avenue and a book signing by diva Jacqui Stafford.

Before we made it to the party, I went onto the 4th floor to spy the NEW gift gallery... WOW oh WOW!  It is amazing, to say the least!  Bright, clean, easy to shop... a welcome change... (see pics below)

Meet some great people and did some networking at the Swarovski party.   Drank some wine and had a few nibbles... then headed over to my FAVORITE restaurant in Chicago, Bandera for a late dinner.   Roasted chicken with potatoes and the cheese and chips to start is always a winner if you are downtown and want to go someplace cozy, elegant, and inviting without breaking the bank!

Here are a few of the pics from my cell at the book signing....  too much schmoozing going on to concentrate on being a paparazzi, but you can see it was a full house, and a great evening!

Blackwatch Plaid- a timeless classic and back on the runway

BLACKWATCH PLAID..... back on the runway!

It goes without saying that in certain prep circles that blackwatch plaid (navy/green/black) never goes out of style.  But I happened upon the newest collection for Fall 2013 by Valentino and am absolutely mad for it!

I have a few pieces in my wardrobe .  A fabulous vintage Pendleton blazer, a few hats, and wool trousers by Ralph Lauren- and they always garner lots of attention when I wear them.  For me, they just work with so much and are base pieces every season  for most of my favorite designers *(Ralph Lauren, Hackett London, Brooks Brothers, and so on)

Wear these with confidence fellas!  Pair a jacket with a simple navy turtleneck and grey flannels.  Or team up the trousers with a great blue velvet blazer and hit your next soire in classic style.

Below are a few shots from the Valentino line I spoke of.  Nice!
